This Friday's opening of the award winning play ‘Take Me Out', starring Fasitua Amosa of Sione's Wedding fame, will benefit the Cartier Bereavement Trust, which assists friends and families of people who have died from HIV/AIDS with funeral expenses. The play, at Auckland's Silo Theatre, recreates the locker room of an American baseball team, complete with 12 naked men, showering on stage. The lead character, Darren Lemming, played by Amosa, publicly comes out, igniting a furore among teammates as they deal with the news individually and as a team. “There's a big question mark hanging over the locker room that will never be removed,” observes Amosa. “It can only be dealt with. There's no more ignorant bliss.” For Wayne Nicholas, Cartier trustee, the opening of ‘Take Me Out' is an excellent opportunity to raise some capital. Pre-show complimentary drinks and nibbles start from 7pm, for the 8pm performance. Tickets are selling fast, says Nicholas, with only 30 remaining. Tickets are available from the Silo Theatre on 09 366 0339. See GayNZ.com's Events Diary for details.     Ref: GayNZ.com (d)
