Petra scoops Auckland

Tue 6 Jun 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

Auckland's Queen of Queens contest was held on Saturday night at Family Bar, with diva Petra taking out top honours before an enormous crowd of around 1100 revellers, say organisers. The numbers stunned Family Bar's Entertainment Organiser, Miss Ribena. "It was a major event – just huge," she told GayNZ.com. "It was totally out of control. I can't comprehend the numbers we had. People were packed in from the street right through both Family Bar and G.A.Y." Petra's brief was to "wow the crowd", no mean feat with such "tough competition," she said. "I was very excited and honoured to win." Thirteen competitors entered the competition. Queen of Queens has been resurrected as an annual event, after a two-year absence from the scene, says Miss Ribena. She is thrilled with the expansion of the LGBT scene in Auckland over the past year, and the support venues are getting from locals, with patronage continuing to soar.
