Maori LGBT show returns for 4th series

Tue 23 May 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

New Zealand's only television show for gay, lesbian and transgender Maori, Takataapui, returns for a fourth season on June 13, Maori television announced yesterday. The show is broadcast in both Maori and English, with the new series including features on rural New Zealand and Sydney-based takataapui. Covering topics from crimes against takataapui, LGBT characters in television soaps, and HIV, the new series will run for 20 episodes. The series will also feature a special to mark the 20th anniversary of homosexual law reform in New Zealand. Producer Jane Anaru describes the new show as "quite a sophisticated programme with content that speaks to a broad audience with warmth and lots of information." The show premieres on Maori Television on June 13 at 10.30pm.
