The board of the New Zealand AIDS Foundation has appointed a new trustee and is now at its full seven-member capacity. The new appointee, Dr Mark Hendrickson is a social researcher at Massey University and brings significant experience in HIV-related research to the NZAF. "Mark's research brings together two aspects of HIV-related health care work – practical experience of the epidemic, and a background in social science research of queer communities," says NZAF board chair Hoani Jeremy Lambert. Hendrickson has recently been involved in the groundbreaking Lavender Islands study, the most comprehensive survey of New Zealand's gay and lesbian communities. Over 2,200 responses to the survey, published in the Journal of Homosexuality, "provide a unique portrayal of the social and emotional aspects of GLBT lives," says the NZAF. "I've been involved with HIV and AIDS work for most of my professional life, from primary prevention to bereavement support work," says Hendrickson. "I feel I can draw on that, as well as my background in academic research, and offer those experiences to the Foundation. It is a real privilege for me to continue to do HIV work, and I'm very much looking forward to it."
