The regular Fruits in Suits gathering of the Gay Auckland Business Association (GABA) has moved to a stylish new venue. The Aucklander Bar at the Carlton Hotel will now host the popular networking event for local gay and lesbian professionals. GABA President and television producer, Johnny Givins told GayNZ.com the new venue is "more professional, stylish and in keeping with the development of gay business." The Aucklander is a "spacious bar, well staffed, with good food and options to grow," said Givins. Fruits in Suits helps fulfil the aims of GABA, by providing a networking opportunity to develop gay business and the gay and lesbian community as a whole, explained Givins, adding that a large proportion of members are lesbian professionals. About 80 people turned up to the first meeting at the Carlton last week. The group had previously met at the Birdcage in Freeman's Bay, but were compelled to leave due to new leaseholder arrangements. Givins is positive about the move, saying he believes the new location uptown will attract a wider range of gay and lesbian professionals. Fruits in Suits meet on the first Wednesday of each month at the Carlton Hotel.
