A new full colour gay news publication has been launched today in gay venues throughout New Zealand. GayNZ.com Update is "a light, bright quick read for patrons of glbt venues, cafes and other selected outlets nationwide," according to the website's content editor, Jay Bennie. Drawing on "the respected resources of our online operation" the small fortnightly news sheet will feature "local news briefs, profiles of interesting and high profile New Zealand gay, lesbian and transgender people, and information about events," he says. Some brief items in GayNZ.com Update will be based on a fuller online version of the story, others will be commissioned exclusively for 'Update.' The inaugural issue includes a front page interview with one of the local nude condom models from the AIDS Foundation's 'Horny As' campaign, and a call from a longtime drag personality to end gay community bitchiness. Although starting a new publication has taken a lot of consideration and work to get up and running, Bennie says he is pleased with the result, despite a small production glitch which has seen a part of downtown Auckland migrate to Christchurch in the venue maps section. "We think that is our only first-run error," grimaces Bennie, "and it will be fixed up for the next issue in two weeks' time."
