The next Queen of the Whole Universe drag beauty pageant is to be brought forward to this December 1st, organisers have announced. Queen show director Jonathan Smith says the shows original date in 2007 would have clashed with the Hero Party, and the opportunity to move the show forward to December 1st this year – on World AIDS Day – is "brilliant timing." A bit of cosmetic surgery will be undertaken for the 2006 pageant to tighten it up, as last year's event over-ran by 40 minutes. "I have made a number of simple changes in order that the show will run to time and hopefully subject to sponsorship we will be able to hold the after event gathering which was very popular last year," he says. Last year's Queen pageant raised nearly $24,000 for the New Zealand AIDS Foundation. This year's event will again be held at the Aotea Centre in Auckland.
