Role change for Darren McDonald

Thu 16 Mar 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

Former TV3 newsreader Darren McDonald has moved out of a producer's role on gay TV2 show Kiwifruit, but will continue to work as a director and writer on the forthcoming series of the show. Ashley Stuart Coupland, who produced last year's series of the show, has come back on board to produce. She describes McDonald's move as "a change of role...he'll be out in the field, writing stories and doing research." A replacement for outgoing presenter Donald Hollingsworth is expected to be announced within the next week, with new episodes airing on TV2 on Tuesdays at 11pm, starting 11 April. The production team hope to build on the successful elements of last year's episodes. "We want to get more out into the country, last year was a little bit Auckland-centric. More real stories from real people, reflecting a wide variety of what New Zealand life is like in this century," says Coupland.
