Wellington film-maker Andy Boreham has found himself stonewalled by reluctant agents in his search for actors for a new AIDS Foundation cinema commercial and print campaign targeting gay men. Every agency he has spoken to has turned him down, he says, stating that they don't believe their actors would want to take part in a gay campaign. "They just said they doubted their clients would be comfortable with being in a cinema and print campaign showing them affectionate with another man," he told GayNZ.com. "They said a cinema commercial on its own might be fine but that print material 'hangs around a lot longer'." Figures announced this week by the AIDS Foundation have shown 2005 to be the worst ever year on record for new HIV infections among gay and bisexual men, with 89 new recorded diagnoses. This is a nearly 20% increase on 2004, which was the previous worst result. Boreham is now urgently in need of actors in the Wellington region who will be willing to appear in the commercial. "Our budget is pretty small, but we can pay the right people a small amount for their time and they'll be helping out a great cause," he says. The production team are also on the lookout for a location. "We need a house that is partially built, preferably just the frame, for a day worth of filming," Boreham adds.
