Birthday fundraiser planned for Carmen

Sat 18 Feb 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

Wellington trans-legend Carmen is turning 70 in October, and she is to be honoured by the Chrissie Witoko Memorial Trust with a birthday party in the capital. The event will double as a recognition for the great esteem in which Carmen is held within the community, as well as a fundraiser for the Trust, which works to provide relief of hardship due to illness or death for members of Wellington's glbt communities. "I know there will be many in the glbt community who will want to help with this event by attending or donating goods or services," says Trust spokesperson Jacquie Grant. "This is also a call to arms for all the old Carmen's girls – we want a guard of honour formed with 100 plus trannies – what a sight that will be." Members of the old guard or those just wishing to help with the event can contact Jacquie via email on kiwi.house@xtra.co.nz
