Look out conservatives, Hamilton drag icon Miss Gloriousole is going mainstream with her “Viva Le Diva” show. Miss Gloriousole has been asked to create the main stage entertainment at the city's Mardi Gras this February 17, which forms part of the Hamilton Gardens Summer Festival. There will also be performances in the Victorian Green House on February 18 and 25. This is the first time that Hamilton has accepted drag and gay theatre entertainment into a mainstream city-run festival. Miss Gloriousole received a special commendation from judges at last year's “Queen of the Whole Universe” pageant in Auckland by bucking the drag trend and actually singing songs instead of just miming to them. She's set to head north in a few weeks to co-host the Big Gay Out in Auckland. Her alter-ego Dennis Ralph told the Waikato Times the event was a fun-filled day for gay, transgender, and families, with "all the fun of a summer fair". Ralph says he hopes to create a similar event for the Waikato later in the year. Ref: GayNZ.com (c)
