Victoria University's LGBT group UniQ is calling on Westpac to drop sponsorship to Wellington's cricket stadium after Stadium Trust chief executive supported the threatened eviction of two women from a Napier cricket ground for kissing. Wellington's Westpac Stadium boss David Gray told the Dominion Post that "at a family game (same sex kissing) is not appropriate" and that he would also instruct security guards to take action. UniQ Victoria spokesman Paul Brown says that as a corporate member of GABA, Westpac should question the policy of the stadium and consider its sponsorship policy. Brown mentions Westpac's pledged commitment to fund organisations which "reflect the diverse nature of our country and are accessible to all New Zealanders", and says that the comments by David Gray were highly offensive and blatantly homophobic. "Clearly the Westpac Stadium in Wellington is not abiding by Westpac's sponsorship rules," says Brown. "It's for this reason that I believe Westpac should reconsider its sponsorship of Wellington's Stadium."
