A lesbian couple from Masterton have been sentenced to jail for six years and two years, for sexually violating a woman at their home. The court heard that in December 2003, the couple invited the victim to their home for coffee, then attacked her violently and sexually. The pair were found guilty of sexual violation and two counts of assault. Although it had been thought that this case was the first of its kind in New Zealand, the sentencing judge said there had been several previous cases involving lesbian sexual assaults. Rape Crisis spokeswoman Andrea Black welcomed the sentence, saying any allegations of sexual violence must be investigated regardless of gender.
