"Gay Panic" sentence expected today

Wed 12 Oct 2005 In: New Zealand Daily News

A teenager found guilty of murdering a 55-year-old Auckland man will be sentenced today. This is the second sentence in a week where the defendant has used the "gay panic" defence for a brutal killing, and the Crown is seeking a long jail term for the 19-year-old. During the trial, teenager Dick Faisauvale claimed he stabbed Robert Hunt 42 times in July last year, because he feared he was going to be raped after being invited home by Hunt for a meal. Faisauvale's lawyer says he will appeal if the sentence is too harsh.
