Fa'afafine fashion designer Lindah LePou has been named the supreme winner at this year's Style Pasifika Fashion Awards in Auckland. One of only three awards LePou won on the night, its a further step towards her goal in establishing a fashion label specialising in Polynesian couture. It's a great finish to a year which started in controversy for LePou. She was scheduled to be a presenter at the Pacific Music Awards in March but was removed literally at the last second because a stage manager decided her presence would offend Christians in the audience. "It is extraordinary to do what I do," she says. "The world isn't set up for someone like me. It's difficult to get into certain channels because people can't get past the fact I'm different. I'm glad people are finally waking up from their coma and realising I have a lot to offer."
