Anti-gay Labour attack site launched

Wed 14 Sep 2005 In: New Zealand Daily News

An anti-gay Labour Party parody website has been launched, attacking gay and lesbian couples and making snide references to Prime Minister Helen Clark's sexuality. The site was launched via an extensive e-mail drop, purporting to be from the Labour Party itself. The faux website details a “Strap-On Tax Relief Package”, and features Helen Clark's head grafted onto a man's body. Also featured is a man with a five-month old baby strapped to his back, accompanied by the following story: “Peter Flint of Palmerston North and his life-partner are both hairdressers at a local Palmerston North Mall. Bringing up their young son Raynor is a full-time job as well!” PM Clark's assistant Heather Simpson also comes under attack in a separate story: "Heather Simpson of Wellington and her life-partner are both secretaries. Heather is looking forward to taking a 'Strap-on' Package from Helen Clark, confessing it is something she had previously only dreamed of." The website is being hosted in the United States, and it is unknown who is behind it. Checks on the domain name show the site owner details have been blocked.
