Mon 12 Sep 2005 In: New Zealand Daily News

Wellington UniQ's gay pride festival began this weekend, with the Glammies, the capital's gay and lesbian community awards, held last night at Parliament's Grand Hall. "The Glammies were about recognising those who've worked hard to improve the acceptance of the GLBTI community." said spokesman Paul Brown. The week's activities include safe sex and drag workshops, a queer barbeque, the GAP debate tomorrow night, test the queer nation, queer idol, Ms Downunder lesbian pageant, amateur drag night, and ending the week on Saturday night, the GlamSlam Sinner or Saint dance party. Transsexual MP Georgina Beyer was awarded a lifetime achievement award last night for services to the LGBT community. A full list of awards will be posted on GayNZ.com.
