"Gay Panic" prompted killing

Fri 26 Aug 2005 In: New Zealand Daily News

A Kaikohe dairy farmer has told court he executed his boss after the man made a gay pass at him. The jury has been instructed in this case to decide whether homosexual advances were enough to justify the man losing control and killing his boss, or whether the case is simply murder. Dairy farmer Craig Ross says he put up with sexual advances from his boss Robert Green for years, and claims that on the day of the killing he woke up to find Green in bed with him, naked from the waist down. Later that day, Ross shot his boss at point blank range in the back of the head, before kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman. The crown is rubbishing the "gay panic" defense for murder. The trial is set to last for another week.
