Nominations are now open for Wellington's resurrected Glammie Awards, which will kick off UniQ Victoria's Pride Week celebrations in September. Co-ordinator Paul Brown says the awards are a chance for the GLBT community to reflect and celebrate, with serious award categories for community service alongside more frivolous fare like “bitch of the year” and "best hairdo". "The awards haven't been around for a couple of years, and with relgious fundamentalism on the rise, we're going to make Pride Week bigger and better and celebrate all thats good in the GLBT community." UniQ plans to take Pride Week beyond the confines of the university this year and include the wider community. A range of events are in the planning stages, including movie nights, a public debate, and the Blatant dance party to finish the week off. Amateur drag enthusiasts are advised to brush up on their lip-sync and single-entendres for the return of the Miss Downunder drag competition, which will be held at Pound nightclub.
