A November date has been set for depositions hearings in the long-running Auckland Pride Centre fraud scandal. Former Pride Centre employee Martin van der Riet was arrested in February this year on eighteen separate charges involving nearly $40,000 worth of missing funds. Although he was released on bail, his passport was seized to prevent him leaving the country. Detective Constable Richard Morgan of the Auckland Commercial Fraud Squad says depositions hearings will take place from November 14 – 16 in the Auckland District Court. A Justice of the Peace will hear all available evidence and decide whether or not the case will go to trial. The charges van der Riet face include using a document for pecuniary gain, and one charge of perverting the course of justice. Each charge carries a maximum seven-year sentence. Police told GayNZ.com at the time of van der Riet's arrest they believe the case against him is strong.
