There are signs that ex-NZ gay businessman Tony James is responding to treatment for a severe brain injury received during a home invasion attackin Sydney, where he was living. James was severely beaten in the attack, which NSW police are still investigating. Still in a coma two months after the attack, he was brought home to Christchurch for treatment at Burwood Hospital, and his family say they are happy with the progress he's making there. "We're just hopeful for the future for him," his mother, Eleanor, told GayNZ.com. "They're doing all they can and he's responding well. Nobody knows with brain injuries what the future holds, but he is responding and there's nothing negative." Originally from Christchurch, James ran a series of businesses in Wellington during the early 1990s, including the gay nightspot Euroclub. Moving to Auckland, he started the K Rd adult store Toolshed, which was subsequently sold and became The Den. He had been based in the UK and then Sydney until the brutal attack.
