Destiny moves further into Maoridom

Fri 17 Jun 2005 In: New Zealand Daily News

Anti-gay pastor Brian Tamaki will take another step into the higher reaches of Maoridom tomorrow morning when the Maori Queen graces his elevation to 'Bishop Tamaki'. Tamaki, leader of the cult-like Destiny Church, was present at the May coronation of Dame Te Atairangi Kaahu in May but a source close to the Queen told GayNZ.com he was not an invited guest. No comment was available on the Queen's reasons for attending Tamaki's elevation. Earlier in the year Tamaki was famously pictured sitting between National Party leader Don Brash and high-profile activist Tame Iti at official Waitangi proceedings. Subsequently, the venerable Ratana Church went on to cede it's speaking time at the Waitangi day interdenominational church service to Tamaki, who spoke at extreme length and included antigay rhetoric.
