The two men accused of murdering homeless Greymouth man James “Janis” Bamborough were heard to say they were going to get him because they didn't like “faggots”. The involvement of the alleged killers Hayden McKenzie, 28, and Leighton Wilding, 38, in the white supremacist Fourth Reich gang, has been a feature of the trial. Both men blame each other for the murder. McKenzie's lawyer Doug Taffs said Wilding was a "murderous thug" who killed Bamborough because he had embarrassed him at a party by giving him a cuddle in front of others. Taffs said that was the motive, because the Reich despised gays and coloured people. 54-year-old Bamborough was throttled then drowned in the Buller River in 1999. The jury is expected to begin deliberations at noon today.
