White power, swastikas and hatred of gays have emerged in the trial of two men accused of murdering a homeless and eccentric West Coast gay man five years ago. One of those charged with killing James 'Janis' Bamborough is Leighton Brian Wilding, 38, of Nelson, who has been revealed as a senior member of the Fourth Reich, a white-supremacy gang. His co-accused, Hayden Brent McKenzie, 28, was an associate of the gang. Both men have denied killing Bamborough and accuse each other of the crime. A policeman who ran a two-year surveillance of the Fourth Reich in Nelson, said members were fond of violence, intimidation and extortion. The group's credo was based on dislike of coloured people and gays, he said. McKenzie's former girlfriend claims to have overheard him joking with a white power friend and member of the Hammerskins gang about having "killed a faggot".
