The largely pro-gay Labour party sounded out the right-wing Christian-based and generally anti-gay United Future party as a possible coalition partner in the run-up in the last election according to a just-released book. According to UF leader John Dunne, in his about to be released book In The Centre Of Things, a senior Labour MP and shared business acquaintance acted as intermediaries on behalf of Labour leader Helen Clark to sound out Dunne. At the time UF was polling only around 1% but the book does not elaborate on why Labour was considering the conservative Christian-based party as a possible coalition partner.
