Two new gay TV shows commissioned to replaced the cancelled Queer Nation have again been delayed, because the production companies commissioned by TVNZ to make the programmes are busy on other projects. After requesting proposals to replace Queer Nation in early 2004, TVNZ commissioned two shows of ten episodes each by Imagination TV and Cream TV in July last year. Imagination's show was originally scheduled to screen in April 2005, then June, but has now been pencilled in for August. Cream's show Kiwifruit is set to follow its run, but is yet to begin production. However, producer Derek Stuart says viewers shouldn't be concerned about the delay. "We've got six or seven productions running here at the moment, and a couple of those need to be finished before we've got people free to go onto the Kiwifruit project," he told GayNZ.com. Bettina Hollings of Imagination TV would not comment on schedules or content for her production, referring all enquiries to TVNZ. Apart from a rumoured title, The Out House, no other information is known about the programme. TVNZ's commissioning programmer Annie Murray was unavailable to comment at the time of publication. It was originally expected that one of the new shows would be ready for August last year, but delays in the commissioning process caused TVNZ to extend Queer Nation to fill the gap until the end of 2004. TVNZ originally announced their intention to replace Queer Nation at a public symposium given in late 2003, at which time input was sought on the future of gay television.
