NZ First leader Winston Peters has said he would support repealing the Civil Union Act – at the request of his gay friends. He told the Nelson Mail this week that would support repealing the Act, as many of his gay friends did not think it was beneficial. NZ First also recently lent its total support for a private members bill from Christian MP Larry Baldock of United Future, which would ban same-sex marriage. Peters is currently touring the country addressing Grey Power meetings, where the government's support of "gay marriage" has been a popular point of criticism in his speeches. He was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
