New Zealanders should be wary of people who present themselves as morally superior and stand in judgement on others, says a prominent NZ lesbian writer targeted by disgraced Christian morals crusader Graham Capill. Wellington author Paula Boock's teenage lesbian love story Dare, Truth or Promise won the NZ Post Children's Book of the Year award 19 1998. Capill, the ex-Christian Heritage Party leader who has pleaded guilty to child molestation called the award "a sad reflection on the warped moral values that children are now confronted with." Capill was this morning identified as the prominent New Zealander who molested a girl under the age of twelve. "Terms like ‘pedophile' and ‘warped moral values' are often directed at the gay and lesbian community," says Boock. "This is a timely reminder that we should be wary of people who present themselves as morally superior and stand in judgement on others." Boock, who is in a same-sex relationship and has a four-month-old daughter, says good family values are practised in all sorts of homes, "and we shouldn't make assumptions based on whether a person is Christian, gay or a star-bellied sneech."
