Wellington Fair "a stunning success"

Mon 21 Mar 2005 In: New Zealand Daily News

The organisers of the 2005 Wellington Gay and Lesbian Fair are hailing it as a "stunning success." Large crowds attended this year's Fair which featured 65 stalls, day-long entertainment with mc Pollyfilla and participation events including the Eukanuba Dog Show and Iko Iko Handbag Hurling competition. "The Fair is a non-profit event which is major opportunity for community groups like Lesbian Line, Gay Switchboard, AGENDER and the AIDS Foundation to raise funds and awareness,” says spokesperson Jeff Montgomery. "I am hoping that next year's Fair will be the biggest yet -planning has started already. We want it to be a major 'coming of age' celebration for Wellington's gay community.” Discussions have begun on using the Fair as the anchor event for a week long festival in 2006, possibly incorporating the Gorgeous Street Party and a dance party. Anyone who wants to be involved, provide support or make suggestions should contact Montgomery at st.donats@xtra.co.nzor 027 243 5562.
