Embattled bookseller and GayNZ.com contributor Jim Peron has spoken of his daily torment in dealing with the media storm created by false allegations by Winston Peters in Parliament about him being a paedophile. "Andy Warhol once said everyone will be famous for 15 minutes – I don't recommend it," he wrote in the New Zealand Herald. "My 15 minutes, in fact, dragged out for days. But the fame felt more like the Spanish Inquisition. It was and is emotionally traumatic." The allegations, which began on the internet several years ago, have never been substantiated but continue to be spread by person or persons unknown. “In New Zealand after so many years it becomes illegal to discuss, report on or ask about specific criminal acts. There is no time limit if you've never been convicted. Odd that so many convicted criminals are not required to answer for what they did just a few years ago. But I'm subjected to cross-examination from all sides yet was never convicted of anything.” GayNZ.com will reveal exclusive and shocking revelations about the Peron scandal in the first of a series of investigative articles on the allegations from noon tomorrow.
