March is political, says church leader

Sat 5 Mar 2005 In: New Zealand Daily News

While Brian Tamaki may have flip-flopped on comments that today's anti-gay hate march up Queen Street is politically motivated, other churches taking part say that it is. Christian Life Centre pastor Paul de Jong told the Dominion Post today that the march is intended as a political statement, and that Christians need to lobby hard. “It's about marching for marriage, for our families and for the future generations,” he says. When confronted over the anti-gay content of the march's website, which seems to be at odds with de Jong's perception of the march purpose, he said that the website was “a Destiny thing”. Destiny Church will be the only political organisation to speak at today's event.
