Wgtn High students respond to Destiny

Sat 12 Feb 2005 In: New Zealand Daily News

Wellington High students campaigning to get Destiny Church out of their school will speak out on radio tomorrow in an effort to get their voices heard, following a rebuff from school principal Prue Kelly. The school has been hiring out their hall to Destiny Church for Sunday services, despite repeated protests from students since August last year. A petition signed by six hundred students and a formal picket outside a Destiny service several weeks ago have met with zero response from the school. Wellington High principal Prue Kelly told GayNZ.com she didn't want to get involved, and suggested that the students' protest actions were somehow engineered by the gay and lesbian community. Anne Moar, the students' campaign spokeswoman, will be appearing on “Humanist Outlook” tomorrow morning on Wellington's Access Radio 783AM at 11am, talking about the effect Destiny's presence at the school is having on the safety of students, in particular GLBT students.
