Wellington may have its own Hero festival by this time next year, say the organisers of a series of GLBT events to be held in February and March this year. The organisers of both the Gorgeous street carnival and the Gay and Lesbian Fair are proposing to work together to plan a big gay week for 2006. Fair organiser Jeff Montgomery is encouraging people to come along and discuss their ideas over drinks at Pound nightclub at 6pm on Wednesday 23 February. "We will have an informal chat over drinks just to throw a few ideas around about what everyone would like to have happen next year," he says. "It would be great to see some other people from the community there to share their thoughts." Gorgeous organiser Sarah Helm said their event had been planned as a once-off, but positive response from the community was giving them pause for thought. "We hope to use some of the youthful energy involved in Gorgeous to ensure Wellington has a range of events in the future," she says. "Pound have now announced that they plan to hold a party on the night of Gorgeous. So we'll be playing all day at Gorgeous, and partying all night at Pound on 19 February."
