Wellington's access radio gay programme Gay BC celebrates its 20th anniversary this Saturday, and producers are hoping to assemble as many of the show's former broadcasters as possible to join in the festivities. Gay BC has been on the air almost every Saturday since its inception in 1985. “When we started broadcasting it was illegal for two men to have sex with each other - so Civil Union wasn't even thinkable – and Gay BC had more than a little to do with making that all happen,” says presenter Hugh Young. Current and former Gay BC broadcasters are invited to take part in the 20th anniversary programme from 11 am to noon on 783 Access AM and streaming on the web at http://www.accessradio.org.nz/. A lunch is planned for afterwards. The studios are now on the 1st floor of 32-35 Ghuznee St, between Marion St and Cuba St, between the Westpac Bank and the Bowen Gallery.
