The organisers of today's protest against Destiny Church's access to Wellington High School for its services fear an incorrect start time for the protest may reduce numbers protesting. Alexander Neilson of the Not In Our Schools group says the protest will be held in the school's carpark due to the possibility of rain and is timed to start at 11.30 this morning, not 12.30pm as advised earlier in the week. He hopes upwards of 50 people will join the protest but uncertain weather and the time error may reduce numbers somewhat. Neilson says anti-gay fundamentalist Destiny Church has an agreement with Wellington High to use the school hall until either both both parties end the contract by mutual consent or the church outgrows the premises. Public opposition to Desiny's use of school facilities in Wellington and elsewhere grew after last year's Destiny blackshirt march on parliament. Today's protest will take the form of music, speakers and banners greeting the church members as they leave their service. Neilson says the group is not seeking to be too confrontational and merely “wants to make a stand."
