Transit NZ's decision not to let fundamentalist Destiny Church march its followers over the Auckland Harbour Bridge in protest at the Civil Unions legislation has the church crying double standards. Transit says the church indicated 20,000 people would join its march, planned for the first Saturday in March, and that number of people would damage the bridge's structure. Two thousand people marched on last year's seabed and foreshore hikoi which was approved to cross the bridge. A Destiny pastor, Andrew Stock, says the church, which has a predominantly maori following never claimed the 20,000 figure and that Transit has never met with the church. The church still wants its protest to go ahead.
