A police fraud enquiry into $30,000 worth of missing Auckland Pride Centre funds is still continuing, ten months after the investigation commenced and the Centre effectively closed its doors. The $30,000 was found missing from Auckland Pride's coffers in March last year, and former centre co-ordinator Martin van der Reit was blamed. He claimed the accusations were part of an elaborate plot to cover up mismanagement. “The investigation certainly hasn't died a death,” says Det Constable Richard Morgan, of the Auckland Commercial Fraud Squad, who has been assigned to the case since late last year. “I've been working my way through it, and making good progress. Hopefully it'll be resolved shortly.” Auckland Pride has been without an office since a refugee-type arrangement which saw them ensconced in a corner of Auckland Gay
