ACT leader Rodney Hide has wished the po-faced United Future fundies a very gay Christmas. Parliament's final session for the year saw a number of insults exchanged, but it was surely Hide's barbs that rankled the most with the party who waged a taxpayer-funded ad campaign against the Civil Union Bill, and had one of their own MPs stop eating for three full weeks in the hope God would intervene to prevent its passage. "I hope you have a gay Christmas," said Hide. "Don't take the fairy off the top of the tree." Poll ratings for the Christian party have been fluctuating wildly this year, but have remained under 5%. It remains to be seen whether leader Peter Dunne's column in Express will become a regular feature – or win them any votes from gays wanting to punish themselves.
