GABA demand answers, Hubbard PA walks

Mon 13 Dec 2004 In: New Zealand Daily News

The Gay Auckland Business Association is demanding answers from Mayor Dick Hubbard as the fallout from his murdering-gay-parents letter continues, in a scandal which has also seen Hubbard's gay PA walk out. "Mayor Hubbard has made public statements to our community, secured the vote and support of many through a debate opportunity provided and paid for by GABA," says GABA's communications officer Gresham Bradley. "We take VERY seriously what appears on the reported face of it to be a monumental betrayal of his publicly stated personal values towards our community." GABA says it will make public the Mayor's response to their concerns, which centre around the statistically unsubstantiated claims in Hubbard's letter to MPs that gay parents are more likely to abuse and murder their children. "We begin to fear that Mr Hubbard may indeed be the Banks-like "wolf in sheep's clothing" so many predicted. It is vital that this matter be resolved one way or the other so that we and our community can know what kind of Mayor we have actually elected and will be dealing with throughout his term of office."
