Destiny plans unauthorised hikoi of hate

Fri 10 Dec 2004 In: New Zealand Daily News

The passage of the Civil Union Bill has prompted Pastor Brian Tamaki to join forces with another television church for an act of civil disobedience – they plan to shut down Auckland's Harbour Bridge for a hikoi of hate in March next year. Destiny Church and City Impact Church are planning Defend the Legacy, an unauthorised march which they say will advance over the Auckland Harbour Bridge and end in the Auckland Domain. "This government has gone too far," says Tamaki, who called the civil union result a "tragedy" for New Zealand families. "There has never been a more important time to stand for families and the institution of marriage – our children and grandchildren depend on it." City Impact Church pastor Peter Mortlock, who fasted along with disciple MP Paul Adams for 21 days to unsuccessfully get God to stop the Civil Union Bill, says the government "may have seemingly won a battle, but they haven't won the war". GayNZ.com understands the announcement of the march was made without either church contacting Transit New Zealand for approval to shut down the bridge.
