The Civil Union Bill supporters ad has begun to pick up media coverage, with opponent lobbyists – including children – coming out of the woodwork. The previously unheard-of Campaign Against Civil Union Bill – a Christian organisation – says there is much public opposition against the Bill, citing the thousands of submissions made to Parliament, most of which were made by fundamentalists. One of these submissions was a hand-written one-page letter from a 12-year-old boy, who said homosexuals were “worthy of death” according to the Bible, and we should take this seriously “out of respect for God”. Also in the Christian camp, Maxim's communications director Scott McMurray said millions don't support the Bill, but it is possible he is confusing people with the amount of dollars his organisation has in the bank. McMurray has demonstrated difficulty in interpreting numbers in the past, when he inflated the amount of taxpayer money the New Zealand Prostitute's Collective was given by the government by just under $100,000 in an opinion piece for the NZ Herald last year.
