Self-proclaimed red-blooded heterosexual MP John Tamihere was a VIP guest at Destiny Church's weekend Taking The Nation conference, receiving rapturous applause from the audience. Tamihere was there with his wife and former MP and TV host Willie Jackson. Jackson said Tamihere – who voted against the Civil Union Bill – was "neutral" on the politics of the Destiny Church. Tamihere's future as a Labour MP currently hangs in the balance, suspended from his cabinet post following revelations he accepted a $195,000 payout after he quite as chief executive of the Waipareira Trust. Destiny's political leader, Richard Lewis, outlined their party's policies at the meeting, welcoming Tamihere from the stage as the MP's face appeared on giant screens. "Kia kaha brother, our prayers are with you at this time," said Lewis.
