The Ministry of Health's medicines safety authority (Medsafe) has ordered the recall of four herbal products because they contain undeclared prescription medicines. Boyjoy, Platinum Plus, Manup and Wei Ge Wang - sold in adult shops, adult venues and Chinese medicine stores, contain the active substances sildenafil or tadalafil used in Viagra and Cialis to treat erectile dysfunction. The adulterated herbal products are not approved for supply as medicines in New Zealand and pose a safety risk to consumers if taken without medical supervision and people are warned to stop using them immediately. Both drugs are prescription-only medicines and are known to interfere with some heart medication. They can be fatal.
