The Destiny march to Parliament in August has swayed some MPs on the Civil Union Bill, but not in the way Pastor Brian Tamaki intended. According to MP Chris Carter, several MPs who voted against the Civil Union Bill on its first reading have told him they've changed their minds after witnessing the Destiny march. Carter made the comments yesterday during his speech to the annual conference of the NZ Rationalists and Humanists Association. The theme of the conference was "The Tolerant Society And Its Enemies". Opposition to civil unions came from people who "can't stomach the idea of gay and lesbian people having the same civil rights as them," he said, but doesn't believe these people are the majority.
