South Auckland gay foe fails at polls

Sat 9 Oct 2004 In: New Zealand Daily News

A longtime opponent of gay rights initiatives and social change has lost his bid to represent Howick on the Manukau City Council. Michael Williams is a prolific letterwriter to South Auckland newspapers and the NZ Herald opposing liberal changes to the law such as the amendments to the Property-Relationships Act, the Civil Unions Bills and the Prostitution Reform legislation. He has scored less than half the votes of the successful candidate and was even trumped by an 18 year-old boy, Jami-Lee Ross.
