Destiny to rule

Tue 5 Oct 2004 In: New Zealand Daily News

Brian Tamaki has stated that Destiny will rule New Zealand in four years time, confirming the church's political and theocratic ambitions. TVNZ's Sunday programme played video footage of Tamaki telling his congregation that Destiny was to rule, and the timeframe, after which the congregation erupted into cheers. "It's a government that shall govern this nation that is not like the governments of this world. It's not a dictatorship, it's not a democracy, it's a theocracy," he said. Tamaki was asked whether the comment was a slip of the tongue – he denied it. The revelations add more fuel to the fire regarding concerns over the distinctions between the Destiny Church and its political arm Destiny New Zealand. Tamaki's statements about ruling the country under a theocracy would seem to demolish any remaining distinctions between the two entities. Cult experts on Sunday also raised their concerns over Destiny Church, which was described by Cultwatch director Mark Vrankovich as an "emerging mind control cult".
