Destiny New Zealand's Richard Lewis found himself on the backfoot last weekend as a 70-strong group of protesters disrupted the Destiny Church offshoot's first political rally in Dunedin. Lewis was forced to defend the party's attitudes toward the family, homosexuality, and human rights as ushers struggled to keep control of the crowd. "This is about this Labour Government creating law based on the sexual preference of an extreme minority. We are not anti-gay. We don't hate gay people. We just disagree," Lewis explained, later describing Destiny's opponents as a "vocal minority." Protesters at the rally outnumbered supporters by two-to-one.
