Destiny to stand against Barnett

Sat 4 Sep 2004 In: New Zealand Daily News

The political arm of the Destiny Church will be standing a candidate against Christchurch Central MP Tim Barnett at the next election, in an attempt to return the electorate to "family values". Destiny NZ leader Richard Lewis says his party believes marriage-centred families are crucial to the future of New Zealand, and alleges Mr Barnett believes quite the opposite. Barnett has dismissed claims that he is anti-family, as well as pointing out that the electorate has voted for an openly gay MP at the last three elections. He says he has never been obsessed by his sexuality, but suspects the Destiny candidate will be.
