Arrest in stamp man murder

Tue 3 Aug 2004 In: New Zealand Daily News

An 18-year-old Mangere student has been arrested for the murder of 55-year-old gay stamp collector Robert Hunt. The student, who has been granted interim name suppression, is due to appear in the Auckland District Court today. He had already appeared in court a fortnight ago, dressed in a boiler suit and charged with stealing Hunt's car. Hunt was found dead at his Ellerslie home on 10 July. Police said he died after a frenzied attack with a sharp instrument. Police described the murder arrest as a "significant breakthrough". Inquiry head Detective Senior Sergeant Julian Rinckes says the investigation is ongoing.
