Public submissions on the Civil Union and Relationship bills close in two weeks, and the Campaign for Civil Unions is encouraging gays and lesbians to make sure their voices are heard. "It's important that people who support civil unions make submissions to the Select Committee," says Michael Wallmannsberger, the Campaign's Auckland co-ordinator. "We need 'real people' to take make submissions to show how civil unions will affect them and their families. Detailed analysis can't replace real life examples. "Opponents of civil unions are pushing the ideas about families that are not supported by research and don't match up with reality. We need people to show the select committee that healthy families come in all sorts of different forms." Information on preparing submissions can be found at the Civil Unions website.
